DESCRIPTION
Acne can have a devastating effect on your skin and face. Today, laser treatments are available to patients with active acne, or scarring, to leave a smooth, lasting result. The lasers work by destroying bacteria present in the skin, and by stimulating the skin's production of collagen, enabling it to rebuild itself naturally. The Er:YAG laser, which removes the uppermost layers of skin to eliminate scarring, is also available. Lasers are favoured by those for whom medication is an unappealing or ineffective remedy.

RISKS
There are no serious risks associated with acne laser treatment. Side-effects may include soreness, blistering and redness on the affected area for just a few days after treatment.

DURATION OF RESULTS
Scarring treatments will be effective permanently, unless the condition reappears. Patients with active acne may wish to arrange further treatments at 6-weekly intervals.
